Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (鶴岡八幡宮, Tsurugaoka Hachimangū) is Kamakura 's most important shrine. It was founded by Minamoto Yoriyoshi in 1063, and enlarged and moved to its current site in 1180 by Minamoto Yoritomo, the founder and first shogun of the Kamakura government.

The Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū Shrine was erected by Minamoto no Yoritomo (源頼朝) in 1180 after defeating the rival Taira clan in battle. It is dedicated to Hachiman, the God of War and tutelary deity of the Minamoto clan. The shrine was originally constructed in 1063 near Yuigahama and dedicated to the Emperor Ojin, his mother Empress Jingu.

It is situated in a lovely park setting and once you get to the top of the landing of the shrine, the view was quite impressive.
